Milwaukie, OR (PRWEB) February 6, 2008

J & P Wire, a family owned business in Milwaukie, Oregon, has been working in the wire forming and bending business for over 3 decades. This healthy legacy comes from investing in their people and manufacturing technology. The most recent addition to the Oregon facility is an automated CNC wire forming machine. Capable of creating intricate wire patterns, this CNC 3D wire former incorporates new fabrication capabilities and efficiencies. Additionally, it is equipped with a wire butt welder that transfers the materials from the bender to the welder automatically. Learn more at http://www.jpwire.com.

Being a full service wire fabricator, J & P Wire is excited to have a high precision 3D former. “Our customers appreciate the faster lead times and tighter wire forming tolerances,” says Scott Ripley, production manager at J & P Wire.

Scott and/or Ryan Gibson are happy to demonstrate the rapid tempo and ease at which this wire former breezes through jobs. It straightens and forms gauges of wire starting with 11 GA (.120) on the small end through 5/16 (.3125) on the high end. 3-D wire bending yields high levels of accuracy, efficiency and versatility.

Today’s competitive manufacturing environment forces companies to invest in their capital equipment. J & P Wire is one of the fortunate companies to recognize this, making them able to compete on price and quality. With a portfolio full of wire point of purchase displays, racks, wire guards, and custom wire products, it’s obvious that J & P has a successful strategy.

“We offer a full suite of services to be the best outsource and manufacturing partner possible,” says Scott. In addition to wire bending, they offer design services, as well as high volume tube, flat, and sheet metal forming.

Verona (PRWEB) February 21, 2012

The largest Mediterranean island, Sicily is a wine continent in itself. Home to a plethora of different wineries with more than 330 cellars, styles, varietals and soils, the island offers something for every palate. With some 120,000ha of vines, more than Bordeaux, Australia, South Africa or Germany, the terroirs ranges from oceanic slopes to the lava-spitting vicinities of Mount Etna. Resulting in interesting enologic challenges as well as fascinating results for the consumer taste buds.

Sicily experienced a long period of over-production translating into a volume output rivaling Veneto or Emilia-Romagna. Wineries took advantage of EU intervention schemes, which encouraged them to distil wines instead of bringing them onto the market. A shift towards more quality in the mid-1990s changed the image of Sicily’s wines significantly and also led to greater recognition of the continent’s indigenous wines. The island is known for its fortified Marsala wine (a style between Madeira and Sherry), which is once again becoming fashionable. Though internationally best known is probably the native varietal Nero d’Avola (a.k.a. Calabrese), even if many other varietals can be discovered.

Planeta was savvy and innovative as the winery aided the island’s image immensely. Since its establishment in 1995, Planeta produces wines true to the local terroir on some 364ha of vineyard with remarkable results. Be it in the sustainable eco-friendly methods or the style of blending local varietals with international ones, several of the winery’s 16 different wines have gained recognition far beyond Italy and continue to impress with their quality.

Another ardent innovator and promoter of the island’s viticulture is the esteemed Duca di Salaparuta winery, which was founded in 1824 by Prince Guiseppe Alliata. The group also comprises the brands Corvo (1824), which was responsible for bottling the first wine on the island and Florio, which date back to 1833 and exports a delicious Marsala. Following a large modernization process, Duca di Salaparuta accentuates its commitment to improve its wines, including the annual 15,000 bottles of Duca Enrico, “the first wine made exclusively from Nero d’Avola grapes, a variety which is now seen as symbolic of Sicilian wine production.” The company held by Illva Saronno Holding S.p.a. is also working on small-scale production (3,000 bottles) at Mount Etna, where they seek to cultivate Nawàri, the first Pinot Nero wine from that area.

To understand the devoted, diverse personalities of the Sicilian wine world one has to also mention José Rallo. She is not only the face and co-owner of Donnafugata, but also a jazz singer and culture vulture in her leisure time. Recently decorated with the International Profilo Donna Award 2011, she keeps on promoting the winery with her parents Giacomo and Gabriella and brother Antonio. According to Mrs. Rallo the success of the Donnafugata (or ‘woman in flight’) is rooted in the family’s consistent, long-term vision and dedication to innovation. According to José Rallo, women have certain qualities that make a company’s success easier: intuition and versatility, empathy and creativity, flexibility and a sense for the future. “In the past years we invested in indigenous varieties, planting experimental vineyards. In 2009 at Contessa Entellina, we planted 19 different varieties for a total of 30 biotypes: 4 of Nero d’Avola, 3 of Catarratto, 2 of Ansonica and 1 for some ‘relic’- almost disappeared varieties, including Nocera, Vitrarolo and Alzano. The 2012 vintage is going to be the first harvest with micro-vinification test.” The winery that attracts 11,000 visitors per year is not only known for its delicious wines and sustainable practices, but also its beautiful bottle labels, which have been on the market for nearly 20 years. José Rallo’s view is that “art is better than any description, and Sicily is a land of colors, images and artistic inheritance.”

Another star of Sicily is Tasca d’Almerita. The winery, which was founded in 1830, has just been declared “Italian Winery of the Year” in Italy’s bestselling wine guide, Vini d’Italia 2012, published by Gambero Rosso. The premium wines Rosso del Conte and Nozze d’Oro have been since their creations in the 1970’s showcases of the native Nero d’Avola grape and the excellence of Sicilian wines. The company’s five estates Regaleali, Capofaro, Whitaker, Tascante and Sallier de La Tour are all spread out over the island and thus comprise a large range of different wine types. Lucio’s sons Giuseppe and Alberto Tasca d’Almerita continue their father’s pursuit of quality and passion through consistent hard work. The motto of the winemakers is simple: “Be humble, be pro-active and be inspired by those who have been successful before you.“ In 2012, the winery sees a further introduction of sustainable practices including the SOStain project – an independently monitored program designed to efficiently use natural resources and implement low-impact environmental strategies so that the winemakers can continue to enjoy the production of high qualities grapes.

Sicily is also the birthplace of the fine wines of brothers Alberto and Diego Cusumano. Despite being present for only 11 years in the wine world, the wines of the 399ha estate enjoy already tremendous recognition. Diego Cusumano finds that “in 2012 the consumer will take special care of the price/quality ratio. Our belief is that due to our hard work and steady improvements of the quality, consumers have great trust in Cusumano wines.” The winemaker himself enjoys all kinds of wines: “I like all wines without special preferences, because good wines are the result of serious work by serious producers.” Visitors of the Grand Tasting OperaWine in Verona on 24th of March will be able to enjoy just that: the result of serious work by serious producers.

Torrance, CA (PRWEB) February 16, 2012

In a recent comparison test—Chevrolet Traverse vs. Dodge Durango vs. Ford Explorer—published by autoMedia.com, a trusted source of automotive reviews and advice, editors assessed the driving character, engine performance, and interior space and amenities of America’s three third-row midsize crossover SUV vehicles, with V6 powertrains and all-wheel drive, to determine the best overall value.

According to autoMedia, rising fuel costs are prompting a shift in what American families choose for transportation, completely rethinking the family vehicle. The crossover-utility vehicle (CUV) class is the fastest growing automotive segment, and combines the room of a sport-utility vehicle (SUV) with the ride and fuel economy of a car. autoMedia’s been tracking the changes to the SUV market and the evolution of crossover vehicle since the 1990s. Until the Ford Explorer and Dodge Durango were released, the Chevrolet Traverse was the leader in driving dynamics.

Today, according to autoMedia’s findings, recommendations can be found for all three: All are similarly priced, starting between $ 28-29,000, but unique options on each can bring that up to around $ 48,000. When it comes to fuel economy, the Ford Explorer was the winner, though not by much, with 17 mpg city and 25 mpg highway. As for interior appointments, Dodge and Ford distanced themselves from the Chevy even in terms of quality. All three will power through the rain and snow, but the Dodge and especially the Explorer have the best off-road capability. Dodge was a clear choice for its rich interior amenities and loads of standard equipment, Ford Explorer for its better fuel economy, and the Chevy Traverse for more space and seating capacity.

Final standings: Dodge Durango, Ford Explorer, Chevrolet Traverse. Consumers can find the detailed report—Chevrolet Traverse vs. Dodge Durango vs. Ford Explorer—online at autoMedia.com under the DriveSmart section.

Indoor gardeners can grow ripe tomatoes in just 45 days.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) February 18, 2012

Phototron Holdings, Inc. (OTCBB: PHOT) (OTCQB: PHOT), the Los Angeles hydroponic grow box company that is leading the indoor mini-greenhouse revolution, is seeing rapid growth in the “grow your own” market. For those still on the fence about indoor growing, Phototron offers five important points to consider.

#1 Grow Year Round

Being able to control the climate is one of the greatest benefits of an indoor growing system. In addition to providing shelter from inclement weather, snow, frost, humidity and heat waves, gardeners can control the amount of daylight hours. This enables gardeners to grow ripe tomatoes in just 45 days from germination.

#2 Grow in Small Areas

Would-be gardeners with limited space, like apartments and condos, can still enjoy fresh homegrown fruits and vegetables by gardening indoors. All of the Phototron grow cabinets are only 21 inches wide and deep, so they take up less than 1 square foot of indoor floor space.

#3 Protected from Invaders

There is nothing worse to gardeners than going out to harvest their crops and finding that a gopher, rabbit, birds or worms literally ate their lunch. Or maybe their dog or children ran over or accidentally dug up the garden. Indoor growing in a protected grow cabinet prevents these types of situations.

#4 Guaranteed Natural

Store-bought tomatoes are often picked green and chemically induced to ripen, leaving them hard and tasteless. Personal indoor gardens eliminate the health risks associated with ripening chemicals and other contaminates like pesticides, E. coli and salmonella that are often found in store-bought produce. Indoor gardeners get the 100% of the available nutritional value because their fruits and veggies go directly from the plants to their plates.

#5 Water Efficiency

Farming consumes 70% of the water consumed on the planet, and most of it is wasted. In a Phototron indoor hydroponic system, water is conserved because it only uses 10% of the water typically used in an outdoor garden.

“For the past 20 years, we have enabled people to grow their own plants using our state-of-the-art indoor controlled-environment hydroponic grow systems, nutrients and supplies,” said Craig Ellins, Phototron’s CEO. “Phototrons are now seen as less of a luxury item, and more of a compulsory item, like a stove or refrigerator, in contemporary kitchens.”

Raleigh, North Carolina (PRWEB) April 19, 2006

Clever Parents (http://www.cleverparents.com) the website for smart, successful parents has officially launched. Clever Parents is different from other parenting media in that it focuses on parents, not just parenting.

Clever Parents taps into an expanding community of smart, successful parents who provide regular columns, ideas and product advice about a variety of lifestyle topics. The site also highlights Clever Parent entrepreneurs and ‘parentrepreneurs’ with feature interviews.

The site is for parents who make the most of every day and every dollar and who do it in a way that is clever. By parents, Clever Parents means moms and dads. No gender has a monopoly on good parenting.

“When you become a parent, your life changes, but it doesn’t end. Your priorities change and the variables increase, so you have to be clever to get it all done. We wanted a site that not only focused on parenting, but on parents and their interests beyond parenting. And by parents, we mean moms and dads. Too often parenting related media is only mom oriented,” said co-founder Kris Jackson.

The site is broken into sections covering topics of interest to parents—and comes from parent columnists and submissions from site visitors. “I think the positive feedback we receive about the site’s content comes from the diversity of our contributors,” said Kris. “For example, we have a dad columnist who is a dedicated foodie and a mom columnist and boutique owner who writes about style. Plus we have two wonderful contributors who have compiled kitchen and ‘Clutter Busting’ checklists for parents to download. We track what’s popular and pay attention to feedback. Our job is to be caretakers for the community.”

In addition to content from parents, another unique feature of Clever Parents is the spotlight on parentrepreneurs. “There are millions of businesses run by parents in America,” said co-founder David Jackson. “We’re seeing a lot of businesses pop-up as second sources of income now that one of the parents is staying home. Some of the businesses are home-based; some are run full-time, others part-time. I think we are tapping into a trend.”

“The interest we receive from ‘parentrepreneurs’ has been overwhelming and we hope that featuring them helps their businesses and that their successes and struggles will inspire other parents. As a parent, you are constantly juggling multiple demands-children, work, family, hobbies; these spotlights personalize how others are getting it done. The spotlights combined the community-generated content from other moms and dads are proving to be very popular. ”

About Clever Parents:

Clever Parents is the website for smart, successful parents. The Clever Parents site is for all parents—Moms and Dads—who are figuring out ways to get the most out of every day and every dollar and who do it in a way that’s healthy, fun, and… clever. Clever Parents enlists a community of Clever Parents for advice, content, products and interviews that inform and inspire. Stylish, instructive, useful, inspirational, and sometimes irreverent, Clever Parents isn’t another parenting site – it is a site for parents.

Oakland, Calif. (PRWEB) January 15, 2009

The makers of Green Works™ natural cleaners want to nurture your eco-friendly project with green. Through its new ” Green Heroes Grant Program,” the Green Works team will award five grants of $ 10,000 each to eco-friendly community projects across the country.

Between January 15 and February 28, 2009, the Green Works team invites individuals to nominate eco-friendly community projects for a Green Heroes grant by submitting a photo and short essay about the project for consideration. Each winner – or “Green Hero” – will receive a $ 10,000 grant to help natural and eco-friendly community projects grow and flourish.

A panel of eco-experts including representatives from the Sierra Club, ecofabulous.com and Josh Dorfman, the Lazy Environmentalist, will review all submissions and select 10 finalists, based on criteria that includes: benefit to the environment, impact upon the local community, efficiency in its use of budget, timing/feasibility and creativity.

Beginning on March 16 through April 10, 2009, the public will have the opportunity to vote online (http://www.greenworkscleaners.com/greenhero) for their favorite eco-friendly community project. The final five Green Heroes will be announced on April 22 – just in time for Earth Day.

“One year after the introduction of Green Works natural cleaners, which made affordable and effective natural cleaning products available everywhere, this initiative encourages consumers to take the next step: reach outside of their own homes to better their communities,” said Josh Dorfman, The Lazy Environmentalist. “Whether it’s a neighborhood organic garden or a city-wide ‘clean up the streets’ initiative, we hope this program will inspire consumers to think about greener living in their communities.”

Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) February 15, 2012

This week, BondRok Partners announced the completion of The Modern loft condominiums. With 83 mid-rise lofts ranging from 1,234 to 2,723 square feet, this new community presents a simple, clean style and a wealth of amenities including a resort-style pool and sun deck, two-story fitness center, three open courtyards, and an on-site concierge.

BOKA Powell was retained to create a clean, modern identity for the model condominiums, common areas and front entry. Three model residences are being furnished in a simple, sophisticated style, designed to appeal to a range of potential buyers:

1) Loft space: Designed with the bachelor in mind, using black, greys, whites, leather with modern art.

2) Two bedroom: Offers a super white, clean look, with natural wood, leather and textures.

3) Two bedroom + study: Provides a mix of contemporary and modern elements, artwork and furnishings suitable for families.

“Our approach with The Modern was to design for today’s primary home buyer, with a modest, clean look. We used a lot of natural wood and contemporary furnishings,” said Caroline Edsell, designer, BOKA Powell.

The furnishings were selected from affordable, quality stores including Room & Board and West Elm. Each unit is upgraded with European style cabinetry, travertine and solid surface countertops, KitchenAid Architect® Series appliances, Kohler plumbing fixtures and modern designer sinks. The lofts have ceilings reaching 21 feet high and include a private terrace or balcony.

BOKA Powell selected the furnishings and provided creative direction for the shared community amenities, including three open courtyards, a resort-style pool and spa, a sun deck with wet bar and cabanas, shaded poolside verandas, multiple barbeque grills, fire pits and pet parks.

“Having worked with BOKA Powell previously on the St. Regis Dallas development, we knew their superior design sensibility and understanding of clean, well-appointed living spaces would serve as a perfect complement to our vision for The Modern,” said Patrick Humes, principal with BondRok Partners. “We set out to create a stylish community that was unprecedented in Las Vegas and with BOKA Powell’s assistance, we have achieved that.”

BOKA Powell also created hyper realistic renderings of the project using sophisticated 3D Max visualization software. These renderings will be instrumental in demonstrating the potential and flexibility of the residential units to potential buyers.

The bank-owned property was originally developed under the name Luxe Lofts. BondRok Partners and CrossHarbor Capital Partners LLC bought the stalled project in May 2011 and retooled the design and construction to create The Modern.
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) February 13, 2012

MindClick SGM announced that Fairmont Designs, a leader in sustainable custom contact furnishings for the hospitality industry, has joined the Hospitality Sustainable Purchasing Consortium as a Contributing Member. Specializing in the design, manufacture and marketing of furnishings, case goods and seating to the Contract market, Fairmont Designs has longstanding commitment to defining business success by not only delivering comfort and style through its products – but also by advancing environmental well-being in the communities it serves. Its membership in the Consortium moves further toward establishing the new Hospitality Sustainable Purchasing Index (HSP Index) as the industry resource for sustainable purchasing.

With more than 4.5 million hotel rooms in the U.S., guest room furnishings, case goods and seating are major investments for all hotels, brands and owners – and as a central element of design, they have a substantial impact on the guest experience and the environmental footprint of a hotel. In a recent MindClick SGM study of 5,000 Expedia consumers, over 90% agreed that room furnishing contribute to healthier rooms, and help hotels to lower energy use, conserve water and reduce waste.

“We are delighted to welcome Fairmont Designs to the Consortium,” said JoAnna Abrams, CEO of MindClick SGM™. “Their support of an industry-wide supplier sustainability scorecard demonstrates a commitment to producing beautiful products that improve indoor air quality, use resources more efficiently and help hotels achieve their sustainability goals.”

Twenty-eight leading organizations are now part of the Consortium, including more than a dozen industry-leading suppliers, leading brands, architects, designers, purchasing firms, and sustainability consultants.

“As a leader in furnishings, case goods and seating for hospitality, Fairmont Designs knows there is a strong demand for sophisticated, luxurious furnishings that also meet fundamental standards of sustainability,” said Calvin Eggleston, Vice President of Sales and Solution Designs. He concluded, “We are looking forward to joining other industry leaders, via the Consortium, in aligning our efforts with performance standards that help the industry furnish hotels in ways that are better for the guest, the community and the planet.”

Fairmont Designs joins existing Consortium members Marriott International, American Standard, Audit Logistics, Aqua Hospitality Carpets, Benjamin West, BYD, Contract Decor International, Delta Faucet Company, Innvision, InterfaceFLOR, JLF/lone meadow, Kimball, Majestic Mirror and Frame, Mark David, PE INTERNATIONAL Inc., P. Kauffman/Contract, Quiltcraft Industries, Ramsey Purchasing, Richloom Fabrics Group, RTKL, SERA Architects, Shafer Commercial Seating, Simmons Hospitality Bedding, Valley Forge Fabrics and the USGBC.

About the Hospitality Sustainable Purchasing Consortium

The Hospitality Sustainable Purchasing Consortium (HSP Consortium), established in June 2011 by MindClick SGM™, sets the measures of sustainability performance for use in purchasing hotel products to reduce the industry’s environmental impact, and contributes to guest comfort, health and well-being.

The Consortium is comprised of a group of leaders in the hotel industry representing brands, suppliers, architecture and design firms, purchasing companies, owners and sustainability experts. Led by MindClick, Consortium members work collaboratively to provide the industry with a unified approach to greening the global supply chain.

The results of the Consortium’s efforts are the Hospitality Sustainable Purchasing Index (HSP Index). Based on leading global sustainability standards and guidelines, The HSP Index is a sustainability scorecard for furnishings, fixtures and equipment (FF&E), and operating supplies and equipment (OS&E). The Index serves to both set the criteria for sustainable purchasing and to provide a repository of supplier performance in the areas of corporate social responsibility, product, and environmental sustainability.
Woodbine, MD (PRWEB) June 13, 2007

As Americans are enjoying life outdoors more than ever before and wanting to develop a low-maintenance landscape, shrubs that flower over a long period of time can be the answer. As a long time Horticultural professional, Vicki Smith at Lawn and Garden Search (http://www.lgyp.com/) has exciting news and guidance for choosing and using flowering shrubs in the home garden.

Abelia will continue to delight gardeners with their fragrant flowers that continue until frost. Most hardy to Zone 9, the plants are evergreen in much of the country and semi-evergreen through Zone 6 adding lasting color.

Bluebeard Spirea or blue-mist shrub (Caryopteris x clandonensis) and cultivars are hardy as a shrub in much of the country and grown as perennials in colder areas. The rich blues of selected cultivars that maintain the color through fall are a garden addition well worth making since they only need to be planted initially and are quite low-maintenance afterward.

Butterfly-bush (Buddleja, Buddleia) flower throughout the summer into fall. Great for use near patios and decks where the sweet fragrance can be enjoyed, it is also wonderful to see the many butterflies that will visit the plants. Adding plants that also attract wildlife is one of the extras to consider when choosing what to grow.

Chastetree (Vitex agnus-castus) which flowers from June or July through September with fragrant pale violet blooms should be considered for every zone 6-9 garden.

Crapemyrtle (Lagerstroemia) for Zones 6-9 are handsome shrubs or small trees that bloom from June until September or even October in some areas. Any description does not do the plant justice. Not many shrubs bloom all summer, covered in pink, red, white or lavender blooms.

Encore Azaleas are so different from other Azaleas that the name must be considered and not just think of it as a brand. Encore, meaning come back and give us more (especially for musicians and actors), is exactly what these brightly colored plants do. They flower nicely in spring, form new growth and repeat the blooming in late summer into fall when the added color is so appreciated.

Gardenia (G. jasminoides) or Cape Jasmine growing only up to 5′ in Zones 7-10 is tremendous in May, June and July with exceedingly fragrant blooms. With more outdoor living being enjoyed these days, Gardenia can be trained into a small patio tree too.

Hibiscus, both the more tropical types (H. rosa-sinensis) hardy in Zone 9-12 and grown as houseplants and potted plants on decks and patios in colder parts of the country; and the Rose of Sharon or Shrub Althea (H. syriacus) which is hardy in Zones 5-9 will flower summer into fall with large, vibrant blooms.

Hydrangea of several types but especially the Bigleaf Hydrangeas (H. macrophylla), flower from early summer into fall. Anyone lucky enough to go to Nantucket, MA, in the summer will never forget how the plants billow and brighten every garden. Mixed with roses, they are unforgettable.

Roses can’t be overlooked when considering flowering shrubs for their new projects or to re-invigorate an existing landscape. A huge movement in rose breeding has brought many new pest-free and disease-free landscape roses in a multitude of colors that will blend with any garden color decor. To get a flowering shrub that flowers spring through frost and is low maintenance is exactly what today’s busy homeowners are looking for. New roses can be a great answer.

Sweetspire, Virginia Sweetspire or Virginia-willow (Itea virginica), especially the new, dwarf selections like ‘Henry’s Garnet’ and ‘Little Henry’ bloom about four weeks in the summer when few shrubs or trees are blooming. With deep fragrance and spectacular fall foliage colors, they continue to give even when not in flower.

Weigela or Old-fashioned Weigela is having a resurgence with several new cultivars selected for their multi-season effect. ‘Wine and Roses’ and the even smaller-growing ‘Midnight Wine’ bloom bright pink for about 4 weeks. With dark burgundy foliage that blends well with Blue-spirea / Caryopteris (described above) and yellow flowering perennials like Coreopsis and Black Eyed Susan, these are plants that can be enjoyed all summer.

With so much focus on outdoor living and container gardening, utilizing these dynamic shrubs will add excitement to the patio, deck, landscape, or in raised planters mixed with perennials, ornamental grasses, annuals or even tropicals. It only takes a few minutes of time and minimal effort to gain incredible color all season. Visitors and friends coming to the home will feel welcome and admire the beauty too.

Local garden centers will continue to offer potted shrubs that are ready to plant and enjoy for instant impact. Visiting the nursery every several weeks during the summer will ensure that the home gardener can continue to add bright splashes of mid and late season color to the landscape and continue to enjoy the effect year after year.
