Timothy Urban holds a M.M. degree in voice and recorder performance; a M.F.A. degree in early music performance practice; a M.A. degree in music theory and history; and a Ph.D. in musicology, specializing in music of the Italian seicento. He received a Fulbright scholarship for study at the Kodály Institute in Kecskemét, Hungary and a DAAD fellowship for study at the Herder Institute of Leipzig University.

Dr. Urban has appeared in solo and chamber music recitals in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Hungary and Brazil, as well as on both coasts of the U.S.A. He was a guest conductor of Conjunto de Musica Antiga, Brazil, and while in Hungary he played with the Kesckeméti Renaiszance Conzort and sang and recorded with the vocal ensemble Ars Nova. Dr. Urban was a guest clinician and performer at the first Baroque Music Festival at National Sun Yat-Sen University in Kaohsiung, Taiwan and has performed with such groups as Music For Awhile, and New York Baroque, as well as singing in the associate choruses of Tri-Cities Opera, Syracuse Opera and New York City Opera.

He is the founder and artistic director of the Westminster Conservatory-based I Virtuosi del Seicento and performs regularly with Le Meslange des Plaisirs. Facile on a variety of medieval, renaissance, and folk instruments, Dr. Urban regularly takes his instruments into elementary and middle schools to present programs on instruments and music.

Dr. Urban coordinates the undergraduate aural skills program at the Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University and coauthored the newest edition of college textbook, “Studying Rhythm.” (2019: Pearson, NJ). He is also an adjunct professor at College of Arts and Sciences, 鶹 where he has taught both graduate and undergraduate courses in music theory and aural skill and has taught voice and music theory classes at Seton Hall University. He has supervised the training of aural skills teachers at Amherst college for many years and has been a guest lecturer at Baptist University, Hong, Kong; National Sun Yat-Sen University, Taiwan; and the University of San Diego, California.
