Jill Crawford has been a member of the Westminster Conservatory flute faculty for thirty years. She has nurtured the love of flute in many students of all ages and levels of experience. Her formal training is in classical flute, and she is skilled in improvisatory styles of jazz and folk traditions. Ms. Crawford has a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance from New England Conservatory, and earned the Master of Music degree at Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers. Other studies have included baroque flute, organ, celtic flute, and teacher training for Suzuki and Orff.
As a full time student, her flute teachers included Alex Ogle, Louis Moyse, Lois Schaefer, and James Scott. She participated in masterclasses with Marcel Moyse, and on baroque flute with Sandra Miller and Jed Wentz. She continues to be inspired by working with her colleagues and participating in events with the National Flute Association and New York Flute Club.
Ms Crawford currently performs with several ensembles, including Trillium and the Volanti Flute Quartet. She has been a soloist with the New Brunswick Chamber Orchestra, Westminster Bach Festival, and has played in area orchestras. Recent collaborations have produced programs for flute and organ, and mixed chamber music ensembles with Conservatory colleagues.
In addition to teaching flute lessons, Jill Crawford is the music director of Union Village Methodist Church and the elementary music teacher of the Albrook Montessori School. She maintains a private studio in her home in Bernards Township.
